Historic Maps of North Yorkshire
Old maps are an important source of information for both local and family history researchers and the stock deposited at the County Record Office in Malpas Road is helpfully referenced in a single catalogue. However, over 2,000 maps of North Yorkshire dating from 1856 are also held in two map chests in Northallerton's Reference Library.
In 2015, an NDLHS member compiled an spreadsheet catalogue of those maps which can be analysed by place-name, publication date, scale, data description, sheet number and storage location. Now researchers can use that catalogue (available via the link below) to choose their preferences. Please contact the library in advance of your visit to check availability of individual maps by ringing 01609 533832 or emailing northallerton.library@northyorks.gov.uk
