The Society is organised around a central committee, which co-ordinates all its activities. This is made up of four elected members (a Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer), four additional officers appointed from the committee membership (Programme Secretary, Membership Secretary, Minutes Secretary and Publicity Officer) and two other members.

An AGM is held every year on the second Tuesday in September, with elections of officers and committee members for the forthcoming year taking place at this time. Membership subscriptions run from 1st September, coincident with the programme year.

The Society is a member of the British Association for Local History and Heritage and several Yorkshire regional historical bodies.
